Signs of the Times

I worked on an assignment in a factory located in a village, some years ago where the toilet was Western and the workforce and management all Indian. I had to put a hand painted board on the wall of the toilet to the effect that the toilet should not be used to squat on and to lift the seat when urinating. When the notice went up I was asked by a number of people on quite what I meant and I had to explain and on a few occasions go to the toilet to demonstrate and explain.

:) My wife had a similar responsibility as part of her Human Resources role in an electronics manufacturing company. The employees were mostly from Vietnam and China. There was a lot of turn over in the staff, so this was an ongoing activity, rather than a one off.
