Alcatraz Swim?

I am still not recovered from the flu, but was able to swim 2 kilometers today in Quarry Lakes before the coughing forced me out. That is a hair less than the Alcatraz swim distance, so I should be able to do this. The next organized swim is the Alcatraz 100 which is on August 29th. 45 minutes in the water should be a lot easier than the 12 hours needed for a 50 mile trail run, although I still plan to do one when I am fully recovered and prepared. A problem is that my swimming wet suit was destroyed and I don't want to buy a new one. That would mean swimming in the non-wetsuit division and I hate cold water.
Should I sign up for an Alcatraz swim?

I'm not an expert, but I think you should sign up only if you buy a new wet suit.

Found you through your comment on Mat Rodina. Love your blog name 'Looney'. :) (And I agree with Delirious...no wet suit - no swim.)

No wetsuit? 45 minutes? I wouldn't do it.

I should have noted that I did this swim three times already. The wetsuit keeps me comfortable, but always leaves me badly chaffed. A few years ago I did the swim with my daughter just behind me. She was on the high school swim team at that time and we finished together after 45 minutes.

At each event, about half of the participants use wetsuits and the other half seem immune to the cold. The water temperature is usually about 58 degrees F for the event.

Delirious, thanks for the link. When I think of Schori, I usually think of Jude 1:4 -

"For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord."

And so the US Episcopal leadership openly promotes more and more evil, while condemning good and trying to shame those who would repent of their sins. Thankfully this denomination is dying. Sadly, it appears that our nation is becoming a theocracy based on this religion of godless depravity since this is the religion of academia.
